Checking In!

September 15, 2014

I'm back on my Monday updating schedule! :)  Although, now that I'm sitting in front of the entry template, my fingers are frozen to the keyboard.  I'm a much better writer when I have a prominent thought to drive home.  Today I'm feeling a little scattered.  Perhaps I'll update on my own progress, and maybe something will draw you in.

I am doing SO WELL with my regimen!  Even moreso than my physical efforts, I am stoked about how clean I've been eating.  Any time I have a late night or sweet tooth craving, I choose flavored hot teas instead.  I try to get all of my carbs in before dinnertime.  And I've been eating a lot more vegetables.

PRODUCT PLACEMENT OF THE DAY:  THE VEGGETTI IS AWESOME!

I got it for $15 at Wal-Mart and I've used it almost every day for the past 5 days.  What an ingeniously simple way to eat more greens!

I went to the eye doctor last week, and he took my blood pressure (....?  Yeah, I didn't get it either.  But I was curious for the number so I wasn't about to question it.)  My results?  I'm at 114/65.  Which is an INSANE improvement from my last physical back in December.  I'm attributing that success to pescetarianism, cutting back on fried/fast foods, and drinking more water.  There's still a lot that I can change, but for now, I'm proud!

As for the fitness, I've jotted down a calendar - 4 days of Turbo, 3 days of running, and one day of Core/Stretching.  I throw in a PiYo workout whenever I'm feeling especially tense.  I'm still working on my morning motivation.  Some days I'm more eager than others, but if I do seem to be hitting "snooze" one too many times, I'll just go ahead and swap a running day for a Turbo/home workout day.  If my efforts to wake up are really pathetic, I do a HIIT.  15-20 minutes, but severe asskicking.  I'm convinced it balances out somehow. :)

As I'm talking about my efforts, I have a tiny thought that I can share with you all.

One of the workouts that I do fairly often in TurboFire is called Fire 45.  Basically 45 minutes of extremely fun kickboxing with three HIIT intervals added in the middle.  At the cooldown, during the final few seconds of Fire 45, Chalene Johnson says (in my opinion) one of her most powerful quotes:

"Be thankful. Know how blessed you are to be able to work this hard."

That always pulls at my heartstrings.  To me, it means so much.  First, to state the obvious:  I have zero neck and back issues aside from typical tension due to stress, but that's never permanent.  My shoulders are my favorite features, as they are so strong.  My arm strength is getting there, but pretty great nonetheless.  I have two extremely strong legs to run miles and do roundhouse kicks with.  I have solid joints and feet that - although I put them through the ringer - never feel pain.  All other organs function as they should.  Most notably for my workouts, I have a perfect set of lungs, and my heart operates in a way that never worries me - the more cardio I do, the better it gets.

Not only am I fortunate to be in (almost) perfect health, but I am so unbelievably grateful for my weight loss.  It took 3 years, but I never faced any issues along the way.  Gradual progress, but also long-lasting results.
I only got stronger.
I only learned more.
I only moved forward.
And I am so freakin' stoked to keep getting better.

Keep challenging yourselves.  You are more than you think you are.  You can never stop growing, never stop going the extra mile, and you can never stop setting goals to accomplish.

I believe in you.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning." -Benjamin Franklin.
